In Vanuatu Traditional Village Life is the Reality for Many

Six weeks living in a remote Vanuatu village changed my perspective on life, work, and community. Nestled amidst lush tropical vegetation, this village was a world away from the hustle and bustle of modern society. I’d come to the village to help on an aid project that focused on animal welfare training but during my stay, I had the privilege of getting to know the incredible people who call this place home and learning about their unique way of life, which also taught me valuable lessons for my business endeavors. In this article, I’ll take you on a journey to this enchanting village, introducing you to its characters, their traditional farming and fishing techniques, and the insights I gained from my time there.

The village was home to around 200 people, and its sense of community was striking. I was welcomed with open arms by the village leader, a wise and respected man named Tavu. His leadership was based on deep respect for tradition and a keen understanding of the village’s needs. But he also knew that for his people to thrive, he would they needed to continue learning and he embraced our project wholeheartedly and encouraged his fellow villagers to do the same.
